Sometimes what I’m blogging about lines up perfectly with what’s happening in my life, and this week is one of those weeks. With three kids at 1, 3 and 6, the topic of allowances for kids was bound to come up eventually!

Why I Finally Bought A New (To Me) Car

Over the last ten years, I have driven pieces of crap almost exclusively. I’ve had a few Geo Metros, a Ford Festiva, a scooter and a 30 year old motorcycle to name a few. Naturally, we’ve always made sure that we have one good vehicle for my wife to drive but couldn’t ever justify buying myself something decent for just a brief commute to work.

How To Become A Digital Marketer

I was 21 years old when I first got my commercial license and started driving trucks. Over the next decade I progressed through a few different companies and by the end was making an awesome hourly wage. I had an 11 year career and really did enjoy it for the most part. Most of that decade was spent operating crane trucks and driving a tractor and lowboy moving heavy equipment. The picture at the top of this post is my old truck loaded up in 2016.

My first thought – I need to tell my wife about this.

My second thought – I need to write a post about this.

Why I Disappeared For Two Months

If you’re a regular reader of NB, you will have noticed that I have not put any new content up on this site for about two months now. Two months is a long time to let my site just sit with no effort, no new content, nothing. In blogging, this is a major no-no. So … Read moreWhy I Disappeared For Two Months

11 Financial Habits I Wish I’d Started In My 20s

Financial lessons I wish I'd learned in my 20s

I wish I had…

It’s a sad statement that every one of us has said or thought at some point. Most of us could finish that sentence a dozen different ways.

The truth is, we all live with regret. Maybe your regrets are about money, many of mine are. I can think of a dozen things I wish I’d started doing 15 years ago.

How To Make It As A One-Income Family

how to make it as a one income family

My wife and I have been living on one-income since our first daughter was born in 2011. Being at home with our children was something that she has always wanted and though I was sure at the time that it would mean we could never own a home, I reluctantly went along with her plan. (This turned out not to be true, we bought our first place, a townhouse, in October of 2014)

Why I Drive a $500 Car

Driving a $500 Car

Sadly, I had to replace the Smurf Turd last year. 🙁

I am 32 years old, and I’ve owned more than 30 vehicles.

This includes cars, trucks motorcycles and scooters that have varied in quality from not-even-close-to-roadworthy, through to brand-new off the lot.

For the last year and a half, I’ve been riding a brand new motorcycle. I bought it off the lot and justified the expense as “worth it to have something reliable”. I also told myself that I work hard (which is true), and I deserve a new toy (which is not true).

5 Reasons You Should Consider Living In An RV

living in an rv

My wife grew up on a farm. She’s always been surrounded by horses, chickens, llamas (seriously…llamas), and open space. After we were married on her parent’s farm in 2009, we moved into a small basement suite in a nice neighborhood to start our life together.

Or so we thought. Turns out the basement was a bit of a dive.
